Steps to Apply for a Student Visa Extension

    1. Check Your Visa Expiry Date

    • Start the extension process well before your visa expires (preferably 6–8 weeks prior).

    2. Gather Required Documents
You will need to provide the following:

    • A valid passport.
    • Proof of enrollment in your course (CoE – Confirmation of Enrolment).
    • Financial documents (bank statements, sponsorship letters, etc.).
    • Evidence of OSHC.
    • A valid medical check or police clearance (if applicable).
    • GTE statement explaining why you need to extend your stay and your future plans.

    3. Apply Online

    • Submit your application through the Department of Home Affairs website.
    • Complete the necessary forms, upload the required documents, and pay the visa application fee.

    4. Wait for Processing

    • Processing times can vary, but most visa extensions are processed in a few weeks. During this time, you may be allowed to remain in Australia while your application is being processed.

    5. Receive Your Visa Extension

    • If approved, you will receive a new visa that grants you additional time to complete your studies.

Important Points to Keep in Mind

    • Don’t Overstay Your Visa: If your visa expires and you haven’t applied for an extension yet, you may face legal consequences.
    • Visa Conditions: Always comply with the visa conditions, such as maintaining full-time study, meeting attendance requirements, and not exceeding working hours (40 hours per fortnight during term time).
    • Bridging Visa: If your student visa extension application is lodged while your current visa is still valid, you may be granted a Bridging Visa, which allows you to stay in Australia legally while your application is processed.
