Employer Sponsored Visas

Australia’s Employer Sponsored Visa program allows skilled foreign workers to live and work in Australia when nominated by an approved Australian employer. These visas provide pathways to permanent residency and are divided into temporary and permanent categories, catering to different skill levels and employment needs.

The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (Subclass 482) is the primary temporary work visa, permitting stays of up to 2 or 4 years depending on the occupation. Employers must demonstrate they cannot fill the position locally, and applicants need relevant skills, qualifications, and English proficiency.

For permanent residency, the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (Subclass 186) and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (Subclass 187) allow skilled workers to settle permanently after meeting work experience requirements. The ENS visa has three streams: Temporary Residence Transition, Direct Entry, and Labour Agreement.

Key requirements for employer-sponsored visas include:

  • A valid job offer from an approved Australian employer
  • Skills assessment and English language proficiency (varies by visa)
  • Meeting health and character standards
  • Occupation listed on relevant skilled occupation lists

Processing times range from 3 to 12 months, with costs varying by visa type. These visas benefit both employers facing skill shortages and workers seeking long-term Australian employment opportunities.
